Elizabeth Public Library in Elizabeth, NJ is seeking a part-time Children’s Library Assistant to join our Children’s Department. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about engaging with kids and tweens and creating an inviting, inclusive space.

This role involves desk duty, helping with programs, creating flyers, providing reader’s advisory, assisting with collections, and troubleshooting library tech. The schedule is 19 hours per week, with mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Enjoys working with children and creating a welcoming, comfortable environment.
• Knowledge of or interest in children's literature, pop culture, and current trends.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Previous experience working with youth, whether paid or volunteer, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Staff the Children’s Services desk and provide excellent customer service to patrons.
• Engage with children in the library’s children’s space.
• Assist with planning and implementing programs and displays.
• Create programming flyers.
• Provide reader’s advisory and basic reference assistance.
• Assist with collection maintenance, including shelving and discarding materials.
• Troubleshoot library technology, including computers and tablets.
