Part‑Time Teen Library Assistant – Elizabeth Public Library

Job Title: Part-Time Library Teen Assistant
Department: Teens
Reports To: Teens Supervisor
Schedule: Part-time; includes evenings and weekends as assigned

Position Summary:

The Elizabeth Public Library is seeking a part-time library assistant to join our Teen Department. The ideal candidate will be flexible, enjoy working with teens and tweens, and be enthusiastic about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the youth of Elizabeth.

Responsibilities:

• Staff the Teen Services desk and provide excellent customer service to patrons.
• Engage with teens in the library’s teen space.
• Assist with planning and implementing programs and displays.
• Create programming flyers.
• Provide reader’s advisory and basic reference assistance.
• Assist with collection maintenance, including shelving and discarding materials.
• Troubleshoot library technology, including computers and tablets.

Qualifications:

• Genuine enjoyment of and comfort working with teens and tweens.
• Knowledge of or interest in Young Adult literature, pop culture, and current trends.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Previous experience working with youth, whether paid or volunteer, is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry books and materials up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move book carts throughout the workday.

This position will be at 19 hours per week, and may include mornings, nights, and weekends.
