Job summary

Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, is seeking a Part-time Tutor II for the Writing Center. The position supports 12 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends, and starts at $18.63–$23.84 per hour, determined by experience.

You will tutor students across modalities, assist with center projects and training, maintain FERPA-compliant records, mentor staff, and help plan tutoring events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field and 1 year tutoring/teaching experience.
• Proficient and highly skilled in discipline; capable of independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, semester-long tutoring, embedded, and/or group tutoring (online and/or in-person).
• Assist with center-specific projects, including developing and maintaining resources (textbooks, models, calculators, online guides).
• Deliver content-specific workshops and meet with students through Academic Integrity Remediation process.
• Refer students to appropriate resources within the Academic Resource Center and across campus.
• Maintain FERPA-compliant records and keep staff updated on student progress.
• Assist in hiring and training new tutors and mentor center staff.
• Participate in mandatory training and campus-wide professional development.
• Cover front desk, check in/out students, troubleshoot LMS/hardware/software issues, and maintain a clean center space.
• Use scheduling system to manage tutoring schedules and plan events/workshops.
• Model tutor expectations and assist with event planning and coordination.
• Other duties as assigned.
