Job summary

Liberty University’s Residential Writing Center seeks undergraduate communication coaches to mentor student visitors one-on-one during Fall and Spring semesters. You’ll help improve presentation skills for oral and multimedia formats.

Responsibilities include meeting students 12-16 hours per week, receiving thorough training, and creating helpful resources. Training may involve classrooms, special projects, and ongoing meetings (Mondays 10:30-11:30 am).

Qualifications

• Current residential student at Liberty University
• Cumulative LU GPA of at least 3.0
• Passed COMS 101 with a grade of A or B
• Recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Communication & the Arts
• Strong skills in spoken, written, and visual communication
• Availability to work 12-16 hours per week during department hours of operation
• Completed SCOM 201 with a grade of A or B (preferred)
• Previous tutoring and/or customer service experience (preferred)
• Flexible schedule (preferred)
• Eligibility for Federal Work Study (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Meet with students one-on-one at the Residential Writing Center to help them develop better presentation skills that can translate to better oral presentations.
• Work 12-16 hours a week, receive thorough training, and provide valuable resources to residential student presenters.
• May present in classrooms, create resources, work on special projects, and complete other tasks as deemed necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of coaching sessions and attendees.
• Attend mandatory orientation, training sessions, and scheduled meetings (including Mondays, 10:30-11:30 am) as required by the Assistant Director of Residential Writing Services.
• Responds promptly to all communication and submits paperwork in a timely manner.
• Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
• Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
