Part Time PT B 20-27hrs Somerset, MA, US

Salary Range: $18.50 To $22.50 Annually

JOB SUMMARY

Cuts, rips, and glues domestic hardwood in the linear rough mill to produce the blanks and linear stock used in the manufacture of custom, doors, stairs, and mouldings. Works from cut lists and production schedules, maintains accurate material records, and keeps department equipment and work areas to company safety and 5S standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Production

• Cut, rip, and glue domestic hardwood to specification for linear rough mill production.
• Assist in coordinating lumber and other materials so that rough mill production runs to schedule.
• Work from cut lists, work orders, and production schedules, and flag discrepancies to the foreman.
• Measure accurately and transfer measurements to the production piece within 1/32".

Quality and Material Control

• Report all damaged material to the APD shop supervisor so it is recorded and inventory records stay accurate.
• Mark damaged material with the label supplied by the foreman.
• Bring any damaged special-order material to the supervisor’s attention immediately so it can be reordered.

Equipment and Maintenance

• Maintain department machinery and tooling in good working order.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance service with Facilities as needed, and keep a log of all service performed.
• Operate a forklift in a safe manner when needed (certification required).

Safety and Housekeeping

• Perform all job operations in a safe manner and in accordance with company safety policies.
• Assist with shop housekeeping so production runs smoothly — sweeping, storing, cleaning, and using the necessary equipment.
• Maintain work areas to 5S standards: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety.

Communication and Accountability

• Communicate information clearly with team members, the foreman, and the supervisor.
• Take responsibility for assigned work and pay close attention to detail.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma, vocational school certificate, or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English, with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to use measuring devices such as a tape measure and transfer measurements to a production piece within 1/32".
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions, and to work through problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Experience working in a team environment.
• Knowledge of general safety practices in a carpentry, millwork, or construction setting.
• Availability to work overtime when needed, including some Saturdays, to meet production schedule demands.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Prior experience in finish carpentry, millwork, cabinetry, or the assembly of finished wood products.
• Wood species knowledge.
• Woodworking machine and process knowledge.
• Experience with hand and power tools standard to the carpentry field (see equipment list below).
• Prior experience with Lean manufacturing practices and 5S principles.
• Forklift certification and prior material handling experience.
