Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is seeking a Part-Time Welding and Machine Tool Laboratory Technician in Indianapolis to support instructional activities in the welding and machine tool programs, maintain a safe, organized, and fully operational laboratory environment, and assist faculty and students during laboratory sessions.

  • Experience operating and maintaining welding and machine tool equipment in an educational or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of welding processes, machine tool operations, and shop safety practices.
  • Familiarity with AWS welding qualification testing procedures and Accredited Testing Facility (ATF) requirements is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff in a collaborative educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare welding and machine tool laboratories for instructional activities by setting up equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist faculty during laboratory sessions and provide technical support to students in the safe operation of welding and machining equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on welding, machining, and fabrication equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, consumables, gases, metals, and other laboratory supplies; recommend replacement or repair of equipment as needed.
  • Ensure laboratories comply with college policies, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures; maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the AWS Accredited Testing Facility (ATF), including preparing and maintaining welding test equipment, fixtures, and testing materials.
  • Assist with the setup, operation, calibration, inspection, and routine maintenance of ATF equipment to ensure compliance with AWS testing requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate records related to equipment maintenance, testing materials, and ATF operations.
  • Coordinate with faculty and program staff to support welding qualification testing and other special laboratory activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

About the Role:

The Part-Time Welding and Machine Tool Laboratory Technician supports instructional activities in the welding and machine tool programs by maintaining a safe, organized, and fully operational laboratory environment. This position assists faculty and students during laboratory sessions, maintains equipment and facilities, and supports the operation of the college's AWS Accredited Testing Facility (ATF).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
