We are looking for experienced Veterinary Assistants to join our new VCA Urgent Care hospital in San Antonio, TX.

Are you passionate about front-line veterinary care? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? Can you provide high-quality nursing care while ensuring a stress-free experience for patients? This role offers a chance to rediscover your passion for veterinary medicine in a modern, patient-centered, high-tech hospital with an innovative approach to Urgent Care.

Our technical team works in pairs to maximize efficiency, utilizing digital tools for clear communication of diagnostics and treatments. We emphasize low-stress handling, hands-free radiology, and organized treatment spaces to keep patients calm and safe. Our virtual waiting room features a dynamic capacity analyzer that updates clients on wait times and closes automatically when capacity is reached, allowing the team to complete all medical records and patient care efficiently. The technician and assistant team focus solely on patient care, not on answering phones or handling client checkouts.

What You’ll Do
  • Follow digital treatment plans prescribed by DVM.
  • Obtain quality lab samples via venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, etc.
  • Place intravenous catheters in feline and canine patients.
  • Perform in-hospital laboratory diagnostics including urinalysis, cytologies, etc.
  • Process lab samples using in-hospital laboratory equipment.
  • Use low-stress patient handling techniques.
  • Perform diagnostic radiographs (hands-free as allowed).
  • Administer injections (intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular), medications, and nursing care as directed by a veterinarian.
  • Monitor patients under anesthesia and sedation with multi-parameter assessment equipment.
  • Maintain accurate digital medical records.
  • Fill prescriptions as permitted by law.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, following infection control protocols and handling waste appropriately.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary experience in general practice or emergency settings.
  • Ability to operate efficiently in a high-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to assist as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Comfortable asking for help and clarification when necessary.
  • High attention to detail.

Schedule: Part-time, 3/10’s. Hospital hours are 12pm-10pm, 7 days a week, closed on major holidays.

Compensation: $20 - 23/hour, negotiable based on experience and credentials.

Location: 9710 State Highway 151, San Antonio, TX 78251.

Benefits

Includes paid vacation, sick time, holidays, mental health support, insurance, pet discounts, 401(k), growth opportunities, and more.
