Job summary

City of Miami is seeking a part-time Parks and Recreation aquatic instructor to lead and teach water safety, life saving and swimming classes for adults and children. You will promote safety events, observe student progress, demonstrate proper techniques, and assist with scheduling Learn to Swim programs while maintaining records.

Applicants must be 16+, hold required certifications (W.S.I., Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid) and pass the department’s performance test.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age.
• possess the listed water safety and rescue certifications at time of application.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must pass City of Miami performance test, including swimming and rescue exercises.
• Shifts include nights, holidays and weekends.
• Background screening may be required.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and lead water safety, lifesaving, and swimming classes.
• Demonstrate techniques and evaluate student performance.
• Assist with scheduling Learn to Swim and water safety programs; maintain records.
• Promote water safety events sponsored by the City of Miami.
