Amherst County Government in Amherst, VA, is seeking a Part-Time Victim Witness Advocate to support victims and witnesses as they navigate the criminal justice system.

This role provides direct victim support under VOCA, helps with rights education, court navigation, protective orders, and liaises with prosecutors to keep victims informed, all with compassion and discretion. 32 hours per week, $17/hr+, funding contingent on grant availability.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of criminal justice procedures and protective orders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Compassion, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing challenging circumstances.
• Ability to work collaboratively with victims, witnesses, prosecutors, court personnel, and fellow advocates.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct victim support: manage caseload and communicate updates throughout the court process.
• Assist with protective orders: help obtain or extend orders, explain procedures, and accompany to court.
• Support court proceedings by assisting during bench and jury trials across multiple courts.
• Serve as a liaison: facilitate communication between victims, witnesses, and prosecutors.
• Maintain accurate records: enter and maintain victim service information in VSDCS per DCJS requirements.
• Provide additional assistance: perform other related duties to support the Victim Witness Program.
