Job summary

Carter County Animal Hospital in Ardmore, OK is hiring a veterinary assistant to join a compassionate team. You will assist with patient care, lab work, imaging, and anesthesia, while communicating treatment plans to clients and helping maintain smooth hospital operations.

The role emphasizes safety, accurate record-keeping, and ongoing training through hands-on and virtual programs to grow professionally.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of professional veterinary assistant experience; RVT preferred but not required.
  • High work ethic and positive attitude as a team member.
  • Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work.
  • Exceptional customer service and precise communication.
  • Interpret medical records and client histories accurately.
  • Knowledge of preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
  • Ability to restrain pets safely in low-stress environments.
  • Proficient in collecting samples (blood, urine, feces, skin).
  • Proficient in laboratory sample processing and tests.
  • Proficient in radiograph positioning; dental radiographs a plus.
  • Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring.
  • Self-starter and eager to advance skills; accept constructive feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with animal restraint, triage, and nursing care of medical/hospitalized cases.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples; perform diagnostic imaging.
  • Support surgical preparation and assistance; assist with anesthesia.
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly with clients; ensure hospital flow.
  • Maintain a clean, organized hospital environment and accurate records.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

  • Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs,positioning for dental radiographs are a plus
  • Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
  • A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset
  • Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
