Job summary

Oregon State University in Corvallis is seeking 2–3 part-time Student Laboratory Assistants for the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Positions are up to 24 hours per week, involving specimen handling, labeling, and basic lab support.

Responsibilities include following safety procedures, assisting with pre-testing setup, cleaning, and delivering specimens within the VRL and Magruder Hall. This role emphasizes reliability, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
• International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by USCIS

Responsibilities

• Triage, sort, label and stabilize specimens, record information for chain of custody. May involve use of a biosafety cabinet
• Deliver specimens to and from laboratories within VRL and Magruder Hall
• Washing, packaging and sterilizing glassware and implements/small instruments using an autoclave or steam sterilizer
• General cleaning; may include sweeping, mopping, dusting, etc.
• Empty regular trash and recycling from multiple rooms throughout the laboratory
• Assist full-time laboratory staff with pre-testing set up as needed
• Other support tasks as assigned
