Job summary

Stars in Pasadena is seeking a Van Driver / Mentoring Assistant. This part-time, hourly role transports K–5 students from schools to Stars sites and provides tutoring-like mentoring during the journey and transitions.

Schedule is 12–15 hours weekly, Tue–Thu 2:00 PM–4:00 PM. The candidate must have a CA driver license with van safety certification, a good driving record, and strong interpersonal skills; Spanish desirable.

Qualifications

• Dependable, punctual, and able to meet driving schedule.
• Valid CA driver license + van safety cert or Class A/B.
• Ability to safely operate a 10-passenger van.
• Acceptable driving record per Stars/insurer.
• Experience with youth in education/mentoring settings preferred.
• Spanish-speaking ability is highly desirable.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Transport K–5 students safely and on time between schools and Stars sites.
• Operate a 10-passenger Stars van per laws and safety policies.
• Conduct basic pre/post-trip vehicle inspections; keep logs.
• Maintain van cleanliness and organization; log mileage.
• Provide transportation for staff, youth, volunteers, and partners.
• Assist with mentoring activities and youth supervision.
• Act as a positive adult mentor during transit and transitions.
• Follow Stars policies and report safety concerns promptly.
• Lead a weekly boys group to mentor participating youth.
• Communicate student behavior or safety concerns to staff.
