Optimizing our enrollment mix is crucial to the long-term viability of Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis. There are several factors that influence a student's college choice, persistence, graduation, and success. The Division of Enrollment Management is comprised of over 100 full-time staff in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Office of the Registrar, Office for Veterans and Military personnel, P TO12, as well as other areas supporting student enrollment.
The IU K-12 Student Success Corps is a comprehensive K-12 tutoring, mentoring, college and career exploration, summer enrichment, and family engagement program under the Division of Enrollment Management. We are seeking committed, dependable, and outgoing individuals to hire as tutor/mentors for the 2026-2027 academic year.
This off-campus position provides individualized and small group academic support to students in grades 2-8, with a focus on student growth and achievement in core subjects such as English Language Arts and Math.
Tutor/mentors also build mentoring relationships to support students social-emotional development, motivation, and school engagement.
Tutor/mentors must be flexible and adaptable to an elementary or middle school environment as well as take directions from school administrators and teachers on specific curriculum and interventions provided for students.
Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides individualized and small group academic support to students in grades 2-8, with a focus on improving achievement in core subjects such as English Language Arts and Math.
  • Builds mentoring relationships to support students social-emotional development, motivation, and school engagement. You will work off-campus in elementary and middle schools in Pike and Lawrence Townships. Travel is required between the schools and campus.
  • Provides structured tutoring aligned with school curriculum and state academic standards.
  • Supports students with skill building, assignments, and test preparation in core subjects such as English Language Arts and Math.
  • Uses school and program approved tools to reinforce key concepts and promote academic growth.
  • Assists students with organization, academic goal setting, and study habits.
  • Builds rapport and trusting relationships to foster student motivation and engagement.
  • Serves as a consistent, caring presence and positive role model.
  • Coaches students in goal setting, persistence, and conflict resolution.
  • Supports the development of social emotional skills aligned with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, Emotional, Learning (CASEL) core competencies.
  • Reports concerns or patterns to school point of contact and program staff using appropriate protocols.
  • Records each session in the program database including attendance, participation, and progress notes.
  • Participates in curriculum professional development and trainings as required by the school districts instructional coaches and educators.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers, school staff, and program teams.
  • Attends professional development sessions and monthly meetings with program supervisors.
  • Maintains regular communication with program supervisors.
EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED)

Preferred
  • Associates degree or currently enrolled in a college or university

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in K-12 education, school or community setting
  • 3 years full-time work experience
  • Experience working with youth

Preferred
  • Experience tutoring/mentoring K-12 students, camp counselor, or out of school time programs
  • Experience with urban school settings, K-12 academic content or curriculum, youth development or programming

  • Able to work collaboratively with 2nd-8th students, educators, family members and staff of all cultures and backgrounds
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and professional development sessions
  • Stays on task, engaged, and positively contributing to the students, team, and program
  • Commit to at least 1 academic semester, preferably the academic year
  • Proficient in content knowledge in K-8 academic subjects especially Math and English Language Arts
  • Able to input and document all tutoring/mentoring sessions, engaging with a payroll system, and completing other tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Maintains business casual attire, professional communication, and behaviors as a representative of the IU Indianapolis Division of Enrollment Management
  • Able to communicate and respond promptly with program staff and supervisors via text, email, and phone calls
  • Always maintains confidentiality of student data, behaviors, and information and exercises sound judgement
  • Skilled in problem solving and communication (verbal and written)
  • Able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, including K-8 students, school staff, and program staff
  • Other professional tasks as assigned (i.e. staffing outreach tables on and off campus, campus tours, data input)
Preferred
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills
  • Familiarity with technology and learning platforms (e.g. Canvas, Google classroom, Clever, Microsoft Teams
This role requires travel to Pike Township and/or Lawrence Township schools.
This role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
This position is OFF CAMPUS in elementary and middle schools in Pike and Lawrence Townships.
