Responsibilities

  • Supports center leadership, researchers, navigators, and staff across trainings, outreach, and projects.
  • Develops practical skills in project coordination and community engagement.
  • Assists with daily center operations: communications, scheduling, event prep, follow-ups.
  • Provides administrative support to facilitators, meetings, and resource distribution.
  • Prepares materials, maintains inventories, and assists with purchasing and mailings.
  • Assists with data entry, literature searches, and research-related tasks as appropriate.
  • Maintains center resources, files, and documentation for easy access.
  • Participates in onboarding, seminars, and professional development activities.

The Center for Behavior and Systems Innovation (CBSI), building upon the nationally recognized HANDS in Autism® model, advances implementation of evidence-based practices through training, consultation, systems innovation, resource development, and community-engaged research. The Center collaborates with educators, healthcare providers, families, researchers, community organizations, and state agencies to strengthen local capacity and improve outcomes for autistic individuals and others with neurodevelopmental and behavioral support needs. CBSI provides students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities through participation in interdisciplinary teams that integrate research, operations, education, implementation, and community engagement. Students develop professional skills while contributing to projects that have measurable impact across Indiana and beyond.

The Student Support Assistant serves as an integral member of the Center for Behavior and Systems Innovation (CBSI), providing part-time operational, administrative, research, and project support across interdisciplinary teams.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Works alongside Center leadership, researchers, operational staff, navigators, Training Specialists, and community partners, Student Support Assistants contribute to trainings, outreach, research, resource development, and implementation activities while gaining valuable professional experience.
  • Offers students an opportunity to develop practical skills in project coordination, research support, operations, and community engagement while contributing to initiatives that improve outcomes for autistic individuals and others with neurodevelopmental and behavioral support needs across Indiana and beyond.
  • Supports daily Center operations through communications, scheduling, event preparation, follow-up activities, and general project coordination.
  • Assists operational staff and navigators with administrative tasks that facilitate efficient implementation of Center programs, trainings, meetings, and community initiatives.
  • Prepares materials, organize supplies, maintain inventories, and support purchasing, mailings, and distribution of Center resources.
  • Assists with data entry, record maintenance, document organization, and other operational processes.
  • Supports planning and coordination of trainings, workshops, conferences, outreach events, and community engagement activities.
  • Assists project teams with scheduling, meeting preparation, participant communications, registration management, and follow-up activities.
  • Helps prepare educational materials, implementation resources, toolkits, and dissemination products for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists researchers and project teams with data entry, literature searches, organization of research materials, survey support, and other research-related activities as appropriate.
  • Supports cataloging, organizing, reviewing, and updating Center resources, files, and project documentation to ensure materials remain current, accessible, and readily available.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, presentations, educational materials, and dissemination products.
  • Participates in onboarding, seminars, team meetings, and professional development opportunities that support student growth and interdisciplinary learning.
  • Collaborates with Training Specialists, researchers, instructional designers, operational staff, navigators, and other Center personnel across projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of Center priorities, community engagement, research, and operations.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University

Preferred

  • Coursework in psychology, education, social work, public health, communications, business, informatics, human development, or related fields
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Interest in autism, neurodevelopmental disabilities, implementation science, community engagement, or research.
  • Experience providing customer service, administrative support, event coordination, project support, or student leadership preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively on teams and managing multiple priorities.
  • Interest in learning research, operational, and project coordination processes.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
