Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a part-time Chemistry tutor for the South Bend campus. You will meet with students in individual, shared, and group formats to reinforce concepts from lectures, readings, and assignments.

You will guide study skills and connect students to appropriate academic resources, while handling required paperwork in TracCloud. The role emphasizes strong oral communication, a commitment to diversity, and professional conduct, with duties aligned to FERPA and college

Qualifications

• Relevant academic, tutoring, or teaching experience.
• Current Ivy Tech students must have completed at least one semester and a GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject area tutored.
• Strong oral communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations.
• No campus disciplinary record.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats to enhance concepts from Chemistry lectures and materials.
• Provide guidance in study skills appropriate for Chemistry courses.
• Refer students to college resources and support services as needed.
• Complete paperwork and recordkeeping in the college system (TracCloud).
• Participate in trainings and keep up-to-date with course content changes.
• Coordinate with Chemistry faculty to align tutoring with learning objectives.
• Demonstrate professionalism and respect for diversity; maintain confidentiality.

Job description

Location: Ivy Tech Community College - South Bend
Employment Type: Part Time
Compensation: $15.00/ Hr

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats to enhance, support, and clarify concepts discussed in Chemistry course lectures, readings, assignments, handouts, and other instructional materials.
• Provide students guidance in the acquisition and application of study skills methods appropriate for Chemistry courses.
• Serve as a link to other College resources and refer students to appropriate academic support services as needed.
• Complete all paperwork and recordkeeping as requested by the supervisor, including required entries in the designated College system, TracCloud.
• Participate in initial and ongoing training programs as required.
• Consult with Chemistry faculty to help students meet course learning objectives and stay abreast of changes to course content, curriculum, instructional expectations, and needs specific to Chemistry courses.
• Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
• Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and strong problem solving.
• Dress and behave in a professional manner.
• Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicants must have relevant academic, tutoring, or teaching experience. This may include current or former college students, recent college graduates, retired teachers, faculty members, or individuals with at least one semester of tutoring experience.
• Current students must have completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject area they will tutor.

Applicants must demonstrate strong oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Current or former students must have no campus disciplinary record.
