Job summary

Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas seeks a Part-Time Supplemental Instructor - Truck Driving to reinforce classroom instruction and hands-on driving skills. You will mentor students to meet state and industry standards for commercial driving and ensure safe operation of CMVs.

This role supports flexible day/evening schedules, trains in tankers/doubles/triples, and aligns with curricula and safety guidelines while fostering a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in commercial vehicle operation and related safety standards.
• Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations governing commercial motor vehicle operations (FMCSA, DOT, etc.).
• Ability to apply instructional technology in classroom and field settings.
• Strong verbal communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage diverse student populations with patience, professionalism, and respect.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Provide supplemental classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to support student learning and skill development.
• Deliver instruction that aligns with approved curricula, state/federal guidelines, and industry best practices.
• Train students in the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles including, but not limited to: tankers, doubles/triples, flatbeds, dry vans, and refrigerated trailers.
• Facilitate hands-on learning experiences that emphasize safety, compliance, and professionalism in commercial driving.
• Assist students with coursework, skill practice, and internship preparation.
• Prepare lesson support materials and maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
• Teach classes during the day, evening, and/or weekends as assigned.
• Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
• Maintain a safe and orderly instructional environment, ensuring proper use of equipment and vehicles.
• Complete administrative duties, including performance evaluations, reports, and compliance documentation, in a timely manner.
• Perform other work-related duties as required.
