Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
• Ensure permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
• Verify safety equipment is in place; notify management of deficiencies.
• Complete accurate paperwork and reports, submitting them per policies.
• Secure detainees properly during transport and handle related documentation.
• Follow all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures during transport.
• Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
• Perform vehicle servicing and pickups.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites.
• Three years’ experience handling prisoners or as a law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police officer.
• At least 21 years old.
• U.S. citizen with a valid driver license.
• 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
• State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
• Completed approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions in the past three years.
• Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
• Ability to work overtime, travel extended periods, and handle physical and mental stress.
• Reliable attendance and alertness during shifts.
• Work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
• Ability to work with computers and software used by the department.
