Job summary

Montgomery Academy in Montgomery, AL, seeks a part-time Theater Technical Specialist to design, program, and operate lighting and sound for school productions. The role supports three annual productions in the James W. Wilson, Jr.

Theater, with on-site rehearsals and performances. Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent freelance experience also valued. This stipend position is seasonal, not full-time, and may combine with other duties.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience programming theatrical lighting consoles and managing live audio/wireless mic systems.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent freelance/professional experience highly valued.
• Ability to work with student crews in a safe, collaborative backstage environment.

Responsibilities

• Execute lighting design, cue programming, live audio mixing, and system setup/strike for three productions per year.
• Advise directors on technical capabilities and equipment needs before production weeks.
• Remain on-site to run technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and live performances for three productions yearly.
• Assist with basic set design, building, or strike as availability and skills permit.
