Job summary

The Arts Barn, a program venue of the City of Gaithersburg, seeks a part-time Technical Theater Coordinator to plan, organize, implement, and manage a season of performances at Arts Barn and City facilities.

You will oversee the lighting grid, sound system, rigging, and all equipment assets, ensuring safety, policy compliance, and high-quality entertainment for patrons. Strong communication and customer service are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years of college-level coursework in Theater or related field; associate degree preferred.
• Experience in theater operations or performing arts required.
• Arts/events programming and box office management experience preferred.
• Backstage management experience including rigging, sound board and light grid management preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, communication, and customer service skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to problem solve and meet deadlines.
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft 365); familiarity with ticketing software and recreation management software a plus.
• Understanding of needs of a diverse community; valid driver's license; CPR/AED and First Aid certification may be obtained on hire.

Responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and manage the annual open application process for theater/performance companies; review materials; assist in selecting productions; negotiate contracts.
• Monitor theater/performance companies’ compliance with contracts and city policies.
• Provide on-site supervision of productions; coordinate rehearsals and performances; oversee sound and lighting requirements.
• Inspect, test, install and modify equipment prior to performances for health and safety compliance.
• Develop and coordinate marketing plans; produce marketing materials; manage collateral (programs, signage, brochures).
• Schedule facility use using applicable software; communicate schedule changes as needed.
• Respond to inquiries via email and phone regarding programs and facility operations.
• Provide training to facility staff and volunteers; analyze attendance; produce reports.
