Job Description and Requirements

The College of Engineering seeks applicants for a part-time Technician A position in the Manufacturing Systems Lab. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting lab classes and research projects, ensuring safe and effective use of resources.
  • Assisting with safety training and monitoring.
  • Providing equipment training to faculty, students, and staff.
  • Performing machinist duties: maintenance, setup, and operation of milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and saws.
  • Executing foundry work: operation of green sand systems, mold making, and induction furnaces.
  • Performing welding duties: maintenance, setup, and operation of various welding procedures.
  • Conducting destructive and non-destructive material testing.

Qualifications include experience with computer-controlled equipment, machining, welding, foundry work, proficiency in advanced mathematics, technical measurement skills, and relevant education (high school diploma plus a two-year technical college degree) with 3-4 years of industry experience.

Compensation and Additional Information

The starting pay is $21/hour. Employment requires background checks, a valid driver’s license, and operation of a motor vehicle as part of duties. Penn State is committed to diversity and equal opportunity employment.
