Job summary

California State University, Los Angeles invites graduate students to apply for Teaching Associate positions in the Department of Communication Studies for the 2026-27 Academic Year. TAs will support undergraduate COMM 1100 sections as instructors of record, with responsibilities to design materials and assess student work.

Appointments are academic-year, contingent on enrollment and budget, with anticipated fall and spring terms listed.

Qualifications

• Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Communication Studies.
• Must be enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program.
• Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students.
• Evidence of satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree is required for subsequent appointment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct sections of the undergraduate general education COMM 1100: Oral Communication course sections as instructors of record.
• Enroll and successfully complete COMS 5910: Theories of Instructional Communication.
• Attend paid pre-semester TA training and paid TA meetings/continuing training sessions.
• Attend TA orientation and manage classroom activities.
• Create or implement course design and assignment sequences; prepare course materials and classroom activities.
• Administer examinations and assess student performance, including assigning grades.
• Maintain office hours.
