PSJA ISD is seeking a Part-Time Swim Lesson Instructor to ensure a safe pool environment for all patrons under the Aquatics Director. The role includes enforcing safety rules, supervising swimmers, and supporting lifeguard activities.

Ideal candidates are 16+ with ARC swim training (or ready to obtain) and possess a high school diploma or GED. Lifeguard/WSI certification may be provided by the employer.

Qualifications

• American Red Cross Swim training (employer provided).
• Ability to become an American Red Cross certified lifeguard or water safety instructor (possibly provided by employer).
• High School Diploma or GED in English.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and adhere to safety rules.

• Maintain discipline of swimmers and assist the Head Lifeguard as needed.
• Observe for accidents in water, on deck, or with equipment; respond to emergencies.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing a safe environment for all pool patrons and swimmers in the pool and deck area.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Effective interpersonal skills

• Mentally and physically fit
• Sixteen years of age or older
• American Red Cross Swim training (employer provided)

Education/Certification:

Experience:

Lifeguard experience (preferred)

Previous experience working with children

Prior competitive swimming experience is desired but not required

Technical Skills, Responsibilities, and Duties

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Uphold and adhere to safety rules.
• Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the swimming pool.
• Maintain discipline of swimmers by asking for assistance from the Head Lifeguard and/or Aquatics Director.
• Observe for accidents occurring in the water, on the deck, or on diving equipment.
• Enter the water to rescue persons in trouble, resuscitate swimmers who may need it, administer first aid to the injured, and call 911 for serious accident cases.
• Report definite or potential hazards and unsafe conditions to the Head Lifeguard and/or Aquatics Manager.
• Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, with regard to both uniform and personal hygiene.
• Display professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness to all pool patrons and fellow employees in the performance of duties.
• Keep abreast of innovative practices.
• Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.
• Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters.
• Support the goals and objectives of the district and follow district policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
