Job summary

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 is seeking a dependable custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety across our school facilities. Primary duties include emptying waste baskets, cleaning chalkboards and floors, dusting surfaces, and moving furniture as needed.

Shifts vary (6:30am-3:00pm or 2:30pm-11:00pm) with a wage of $18.60/hr. Responsibilities include securing doors/windows, reporting damage, supporting energy-saving programs, and performing other duties as assigned.

• Custodial experience preferred.

• Empty waste baskets daily and pencil sharpeners as needed.
• Cleans all chalkboards and dry erase boards daily.
• Dust window sills, counter tops, etc.
• Sweep, mop and vacuum floors.
• Move furniture for cleaning as needed and return neatly.
• Cleans doors, walls, windows and attached hardware daily.
• Removes graffiti as needed.
• Cleans and disinfects washroom and locker room floors, sinks, toilets, urinals and attached plumbing fixtures as needed.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment and requests replacement as needed, far enough in advance so as not to be hindered in performing his/her duties.
• Keeps school building premises, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, lawn areas, roof and play areas safe and clean.
• Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash and or waste.
• Assumes responsibility for the closing of the building and determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, and that all lights, except those left on for security reasons, are turned off.
• Reports immediately to the Head Custodian, Assistant Director, or the building administrator(s) any damage to school property.
• Moves furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities. Performs all other duties as assigned by the head Custodian, Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds, or the building principal.
• Keeps up and complies with District energy savings programs.
• Shovels and / or dresses walks and steps as appropriate or assigned.
• Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are set as required by the security policy and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Raises the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
• Performs lunch related set up and duties when working the daytime shift.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
