Qualifications

• Must be actively enrolled and progressing full time in an accredited respiratory care practitioner program.
• Must have completed three semesters of clinical coursework.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patients through interviews, limited physical exams, and diagnostic tests; consults with physicians to address patient care respiratory therapy needs.
• Operates and monitors respiratory equipment such as medical gas delivery apparatus, incentive breathing/hyperinflating devices, environmental control systems and aerosol devices.
• Administers medical gases, humidification, aerosols and respiratory medications; maintains clearance of patient airways; provides emergency cardiopulmonary assistance.
• Monitors patients' physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs.
• Educates patient and family on breathing exercises and use of medications.
• Inspects, sanitizes, tests and maintains respiratory equipment.
• Maintains applicable records and documentation; ensures safety and infection control.
