JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington is hiring up to eight (8) part-time STEM Academy Teaching Assistants for an in-person high school math and science program at a community organization in Northeast Philadelphia. Responsibilities include classroom support and content tutoring in collaboration with faculty in STEM fields (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science). Activities will be from January 2024 to June 2025, with potential extensions. Work hours are typically between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on most weekdays, totaling 8-12 hours per week. Compensation is $18/hour, with opportunities for higher pay or additional hours for long-term participation.

Job Duties:

1. Deliver STEM-based instruction, activities, and labs for high school students.
2. Follow and adapt written instructions and materials for STEM activities.
3. Provide weekly updates, reports, and materials to the STEM Faculty Coordinator.
4. Communicate regularly with team members and the Faculty Coordinator to ensure content accuracy and problem-solving.

Requirements and Qualifications:

1. Complete responsibilities timely and proactively resolve issues.
2. Proficiency in at least one STEM area (Engineering, Math, Physics, IST, Computer Science) or Education (preferably 5th semester or higher).
3. Ability to understand instructions and work independently or collaboratively.
4. Successful completion of Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Background Check.
5. Current or former Penn State Abington student (preferred).
