Part-time Sociology Instructor (Adjunct Faculty)

Position Overview

MACC is seeking candidates interested in teaching as a part-time Sociology instructor (adjunct faculty). These positions are contracted per semester with pay based on credit hours.

Availability depends on course enrollment across all MACC sites. Applicants are added to a "pool" of adjunct faculty, with credentials retained for three years. A Master's degree is required for most subject areas, with at least 18 graduate hours in the relevant field; teaching experience is preferred.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Teach assigned classes, which may include day, evening, dual credit, distance education, or campus-based courses.
  2. Provide effective instruction with active learning activities and timely feedback.
  3. Develop and update course materials, lectures, and labs to ensure relevance and alignment with syllabus.
  4. Provide students with a course syllabus outlining learning expectations, major assignments, and evaluation methods; submit to the dean’s office by the second week.
  5. Utilize textbook(s) and course resources.
  6. Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance, submitting reports by the deadline.
  7. Maintain three office hours per week if teaching at least nine credit hours; communicate hours to the dean.
  8. Follow attendance policy and drop non-attending students promptly.
  9. Refer at-risk students to support resources.
  10. Participate in assessment and feedback processes to improve learning outcomes.
  11. Attend faculty meetings if requested.
  12. Regularly check college email and communicate effectively with students and staff.
  13. Engage in professional development and service activities.
  14. Collaborate with colleagues and administrators.
  15. Submit updated transcripts and degrees as required.
  16. Adhere to policies set by the Board of Trustees and administration.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Information

All faculty report to the Dean of Academic Affairs or the Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education.
