Job Title: Part Time - Sociology Instructor

Education Code §87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he/she/they is free of active tuberculosis.
As a condition of employment, you will need to provide fingerprints to the local police department; the fees charged by DOJ and FBI for the fingerprint report are the employee’s responsibility.
Fingerprint clearance must be received prior to the employee’s first day on the job.

Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Develop and deliver instructional lectures for Sociology courses up to 10 hours/week.
Organize and teach all levels of Sociology classes.
Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning.
Teach day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments, which may include distance learning (interactive television, online) and accelerated courses.
Assess Student Learning Outcomes every semester.
Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees if desired.

REQUIRED DUTIES:

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications stated below.

Master’s in sociology OR
Bachelor’s in sociology AND
Master’s in anthropology, any ethnic studies, social work, or psychology, OR the equivalent.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Preference may be given to candidates with life or teaching experience which would demonstrate the clear ability to teach Sociology to community college students.

Physical Demands

Range/Step: Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience).

Benefits Information

Part-time positions less than 0.60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits.
