Job summary

Gunstock Mountain Resort's Snowsports School is hiring Part-time Snowsports Instructors for the winter season. Ideal candidates are confident and proficient across more Gunstock terrain, with strong communications skills and a guest-focused attitude.

You will use PSIA & AASI teaching methodologies to provide a professional ski or snowboard learning environment, greet guests, and match students to their ability level. Training and safety are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Must be 16+ years old.
• Availability: minimum one consistent day per week throughout the season plus at least 5 days during holidays or peak periods.
• Attend four preseason training days on December 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Responsibilities

• Provide guests with a professional ski or snowboard learning environment using PSIA & AASI methodologies.
• Meet and greet Snowsports guests in a timely and professional manner; match students to skill level and adjust as needed.
• Assist students with transporting ski/snowboard equipment and explain lift loading procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of all Snowsports programs and Gunstock's overall operations.
• Model safe behavior and report hazards; follow the Skier's Responsibility Code.

The Snowsports School at Gunstock Mountain Resort has provided quality snow sports learning experiences for guests of all ages in a fun, supportive, and safe environment for 80 years! We are now accepting applications for Part-time Snowsports Instructors for the winter season. Ideal candidates are confident and proficient across more Gunstock terrain and surface conditions and bring the exceptional communications skills and guest-focused attitude that define the Gunstock experience.

You'll spend most of your time:

• Using the PSIA & AASI Teaching Methodology, provide guests with a professional ski or snowboard learning environment that encourages skill development appropriate for the guests' ability level.
• Upon lesson assignment, meet and greet Snowsports guests in a timely and professional manner; ensure students are matched to appropriate skill level and work with supervisors/managers to make appropriate changes when necessary.
• Assist students with transporting ski/ride equipment to learning terrain as needed; educate them on proper load/unload procedures for chairlifts and carpet lifts.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of all Snowsports programs offered by the Snowsports School, as well as general knowledge of Gunstock's overall operation.
• Continuously model safe behavior and take appropriate action to address or report hazards; follow the Skier's Responsibility Code at all times when skiing/riding at the resort.

Requirements:

Skiers Intermediate to advanced skiing skills with ability to ski in a comfortable, open-stance parallel (hip-width stance) on all intermediate (Blue) and less challenging, groomed expert (Black) terrain. Ability to ski beginner bumps, while maintaining rhythm and speed control preferred but not required.

Snowboarders Intermediate to advanced snowboarding skills with ability to ride confidently on all intermediate (Blue) terrain in variable conditions. Ability to ride more challenging terrain and bumps with carved turns preferred but not required.

All New Instructors must be able to provide a minimum of one consistent day per week of availability throughout the season plus at least 5 days of additional availability during holidays or other peak demand periods.

All New Instructors must attend four days of preseason training on December 5th, 6th 12th and 13th.

Youth Instructors:

We hire a limited number of 15-year-old instructors. In the role of a youth instructor, you will spend most of your time performing the following:

• Meet and greet Children's Program guests
• Help students prepare for ski/ snowboard lessons
• Assist lead instructor, and in some cases, lead ski or snowboard lesson in a designated supervised area
