Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Set up and prepare all simulation rooms and equipment for each scenario.
  • Operate simulation equipment and contribute to fidelity of scenarios.
  • Start up and shut down simulators; troubleshoot hardware and AV systems.
  • Collaborate with staff to evaluate and improve simulations.
  • Support lab operations, inventory management, and daily student interactions.
  • Create moulage and other materials for sessions.
  • Ensure lab safety protocols are followed.

Salary Range: $26.72 to $33.65/hr

JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Simulation Assistant (Lab Coordinator) is to assist with the implementation of experiential learning experiences in the academic setting. The Simulation Assistant will work under the oversight of the Assistant Director of Nursing Simulation Education and provide support across the simulation team to maximize efficiency and capacity. The assistant will demonstrate a commitment to the vision and mission of St. Thomas, the Morrison Family College of Health, and the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing and is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure all simulation equipment and supplies are available and set‑up for each simulation scenario. This includes room set‑up, changeover, and clean‑up for demonstration of clinical procedures, laboratory and simulation learning sessions.
  • Operate simulation equipment for duration of student simulation scenario. Contribute to fidelity of simulation scenarios through realistic patient voice portrayal or as a standardized/simulated participant.
  • Initiate the startup and shut down of all simulators, operating simulation equipment during simulations as needed, including troubleshooting measures involving computer hardware, props, simulators, and audio‑visual systems.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director of Nursing Simulation Education, simulation staff and other faculty to evaluate and refine simulation activities for continuous improvement, ensuring they remain effective and meet the educational needs and learning outcomes of the nursing students.
  • Support efficient learning environment operations, including respectful resource utilization and optimization, inventory maintenance and collaborative planning for optimal student learning experiences. Participate in daily interaction with students, faculty, and simulated participants.
  • Create realistic non‑damaging moulage and other needed materials for simulation sessions.
  • Ensure that the lab adheres to safety protocols, reducing risks and creating a secure environment for students to learn.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED.
  • Licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant or equivalent Certification in a Healthcare position.
  • Minimum of two years of professional CNA experience or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing or other health‑related field.
  • Certification as Nursing or Medical Assistant.
