Job summary

The City of Evanston Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Part-Time SilverSneakers Instructor to lead group fitness classes for adults 55+ at multiple city centers. The ideal candidate holds a current SilverSneakers instructor certification, CPR/AED and First Aid, and can provide modifications for varying abilities.

Most classes run between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with travel between Prieto Community Center, Robert Crown, and Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center.

Qualifications

• Current SilverSneakers instructor certification.
• Additional fitness certifications are preferred.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain prior to beginning employment.
• Experience teaching group fitness classes, preferably with older adults.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide exercise modifications for participants with varying abilities.

Position Overview

The City of Evanston Parks & Recreation Department is seeking an energetic, dependable, and engaging Part-Time SilverSneakers Instructor to lead group fitness classes for older adults. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping older adults stay active, healthy, and connected through safe, enjoyable, and accessible exercise.

The instructor will create a welcoming environment where participants of varying fitness levels feel comfortable, supported, and motivated to participate.

Teaching Locations

Depending on programming needs, classes may be held at any of the following City of Evanston facilities:

• Dr. Jorge and Luz Maria Prieto Community Center
• Robert Crown Community Center
• Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center

Instructors should be comfortable teaching at different locations as program needs and schedules change.

Schedule

Part-Time | Class-Based Position

Most classes will be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Class days, times, and locations will vary based on programming needs and instructor availability. Flexibility to teach at multiple City of Evanston facilities is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a fitness center environment. The position requires frequent standing, walking, and demonstration of exercises. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and assist clients with equipment as needed.
