Job summary

Livingstone College is seeking a Part-Time Shuttle Driver to provide safe, efficient transportation for students and authorized passengers on campus and nearby locations. The role requires flexibility for mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events.

You will operate vehicles, perform pre/post-trip inspections, maintain logs, and deliver courteous service while upholding safety standards and college policies. CDL with endorsement and CPR/First Aid are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle type.
  • Ability to meet NC and federal licensing requirements, including CDL and passenger endorsement when applicable.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to satisfy Livingstone College requirements for operating College vehicles.
  • Successful completion of required background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, sound judgment, customer-service skills, and commitment to passenger safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work respectfully with a diverse college student population.
  • Ability to sit and operate a motor vehicle for extended periods, enter and exit vehicles repeatedly, conduct routine vehicle inspections, and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Preferred: CDL with applicable passenger endorsement.
  • Preferred: CPR/First Aid or defensive-driving certification.
  • Preferred: Experience in a college/university or customer-service environment.
  • Familiarity with Salisbury, Rowan County, Charlotte, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students and other authorized passengers between designated campus and off-campus locations.
  • Operate College vehicles in accordance with federal, state, local, and College safety requirements.
  • Follow assigned shuttle routes, schedules, pickup locations, and transportation procedures.
  • Provide courteous, professional, respectful, and student-centered service to passengers.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical, maintenance, cleanliness, or safety concerns.
  • Maintain required transportation logs, mileage records, inspection documentation, and incident reports.
  • Communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding delays, route disruptions, emergencies, accidents, passenger concerns, or vehicle issues.
  • Ensure passengers comply with applicable vehicle safety requirements and College transportation expectations.
  • Exercise sound judgment during accidents, emergencies, severe weather, traffic disruptions, or challenging passenger situations.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, and student incidents in accordance with College procedures.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate confidentiality when interacting with students.
  • Provide transportation support for student activities, athletic events, College programs, special events, airport or transportation-terminal trips, and other approved assignments.
  • Participate in required safety, defensive-driving, emergency-preparedness, and College training.
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean, orderly, and professional condition.
  • Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Part-Time Shuttle Driver provides safe, reliable, courteous, and efficient transportation for Livingstone College students and other authorized members of the College community. The driver operates College-owned or authorized vehicles along designated routes and for approved College activities while maintaining a strong commitment to student safety, professionalism, punctuality, customer service, and compliance with College policies and applicable transportation laws. This position requires a flexible schedule that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and other periods of increased transportation need.

Education/ Experience

Required:

  • Ability to meet all applicable North Carolina and federal licensing requirements, including Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and passenger endorsement requirements when applicable.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to satisfy Livingstone College requirements for operating College vehicles.
  • Successful completion of required background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, sound judgment, customer-service skills, and commitment to passenger safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work respectfully with a diverse college student population.

Preferred:
  • Previous shuttle, bus, transit, school, commercial, or passenger-transportation driving experience.

  • Experience in a college, university, school, transportation, hospitality, or customer-service environment.
  • Familiarity with Salisbury, Rowan County, Charlotte, and surrounding areas.
