Job summary

Burcham Hills is seeking a friendly Recreation Assistant to join our in-house Recreation Therapy team in East Lansing, MI. This part-time or per diem position engages residents in meaningful group and one-to-one activities, helping to maintain and enrich daily life.

The ideal candidate has coursework in eldercare or related fields, English proficiency, and a welcoming hospitality orientation. A bachelor's degree is preferred and the ability to obtain a chauffeur's license is a plus.

Qualifications

• Coursework in eldercare, recreation, event planning or related subjects.
• Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
• Experience working with geriatrics in long-term care or related residential health care setting.
• Demonstrate understanding, patience, tact, respect and courtesy in dealing with resident/clients, family and visitors.
• Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written and oral instructions in English.
• Ability to obtain chauffeur's driver's license. Excellent driving record.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the residential neighborhood's daily recreation and activity program to meet the residents’ needs.
• Lead both group and one-to-one activities to engage residents meaningfully.
• Assist in planning, directing and evaluating the ongoing life recreation program.
• Ensure residents’ lives are maintained and enriched to the fullest extent possible.
