Job summary

The Nashua School District is seeking a Non-CDL Van Driver for the McKinney-Vento Program - Title 1. This 20-hour weekly role supports homeless students by safely transporting them to and from school and related activities, with a focus on reliability, safety, and respectful treatment.

The position requires a high school diploma, 21+ years old, valid license, clean driving record, and ability to pass background checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be 21+ with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record (Non-CDL).
• Ability to pass background checks, including fingerprinting, and driving record review.
• Prior experience working with children or in a school setting preferred.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn McKinney-Vento regulations and student rights.
• Reliable, punctual, and organized.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school district van in compliance with all local, state, and district transportation policies.
• Transport students to and from school, including routes that may cross district boundaries.
• Maintain consistent pick-up and drop-off schedules to support student attendance and stability.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, report maintenance issues promptly.
• Ensure all passengers follow safety protocols, including seatbelt use.
• Supervise boarding and unloading at stops; assist students with seatbelts and mobility aids.
• Maintain order on the van to prevent distractions.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, mileage records, and incident reports as required.
• Communicate effectively with transportation staff, school personnel, and program coordinators.
• Provide a supportive and respectful environment for students, maintaining strict confidentiality.
• Adapt routes and schedules as needed based on student mobility and program requirements.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or behavioral concerns during transport.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Title 1 Coordinator, Transportation Coordinator or designee to support district operations and student needs.
