Qualifications

• Holds and maintains current Registered Nurse licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
• Holds and maintains current CPR certification.
• Maintains ancillary certification with the Louisiana Dept of Education.
• Acquires a minimum of 10 contact hours of continuing education in subjects related to school nursing.
• 2 years experience in pediatrics or community nursing is required.
• 5+ years experience in pediatrics or community nursing is recommended.

Responsibilities

• Provides health services to students during the school day.
• Establishes a weekly routine of visits to schools.
• Trains staff for student health procedures and medication administration.
• Maintains complete health records on all school nurse activities.
• Counsels pregnant students on a routine basis.
• Performs health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and refers as needed.
• Serves as a health resource between staff, parents, and health community.
