Job summary

Salem Public Schools is seeking a part-time Cook for the Salem area, with duties including safe food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen. The role involves potential stepping in as kitchen manager, with daily tasks around breakfast and lunch service.

Hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 6:30am–1:30pm, up to about 19.5 hours per week, with location and times varying by district needs. Must have Serve Safe or be willing to certify.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Serve Safe Certification (or willingness to become certified within 2 months).
• Strong sense of customer service.
• Computer knowledge.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Must be flexible.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
• Bilingual, candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply.
• Current authorization to work in the United States is required.

Responsibilities

• Safe preparation and handling of food.
• Cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities.
• Serving food.
• Record keeping.
• Must be willing to step in as kitchen manager or cook when asked.
• Efficient, clean and safe preparation, serving and clean-up of daily meals.
• Working knowledge and effective use of the POS system.
• Able to prepare receipts for deposits.
• Show flexibility in tasks - serving, food prep, running POS, clean up.
