Job summary

Akron Public Schools is seeking a Temporary Custodial Worker to perform routine custodial and housekeeping duties across schools and facilities. You will prepare facilities for the next school day, cleaning classrooms, offices and common areas daily.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, and following safety procedures. Must pass background checks and have a high school diploma; position is not civil service and requires availability for up to 29 hours

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited High School or GED
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must satisfactorily complete a Bureau of Criminal Investigation and FBI background checks
• Must be able to lift a maximum of 90 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders (6-, 8-, 12-foot)
• Must be able to walk in excess of 2-3 miles a day.
• Must be able to operate automatic floor machines, floor scrubbers, floor burnishers/polishers, wet/dry vacuums, lawn equipment and snow blowers.

Responsibilities

• Reports to Day Supervisor of Custodial Services.
• Call the Day Supervisor by 1:00 PM daily for job assignment.
• Sweep, mop and dust classrooms, offices, corridors and related areas.
• Empty trash containers and pencil sharpeners.
• Vacuum carpets, clean restrooms and windows or door glass.
• Stock/restock soap, toilet paper and paper towels.
• Secure interior/exterior doors and set building security alarm.
• Follow cleanup/disposal procedures for blood-borne pathogens and other bodily fluids.
• Work in areas with hazardous fumes and outdoor elements year round.
• Interact positively with supervisors, staff, students and the public.
• Follow written and oral instructions and work independently.
• Attend asbestos training, in-services and meetings as required.
