Job summary

Grain Valley R-5 School District is hiring a part-time Cook to prepare meals for students and staff. The role requires safe handling of kitchen equipment, adherence to food safety guidelines, and accurate portioning per state requirements.

Starting date is immediate, with a 9-month position reporting to the Director of Food Services. Responsibilities include daily production records, assisting with deliveries, and maintaining cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in the food industry preferred.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
• Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs.
• Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
• Must be able to stoop and bend over, reach overhead.
• Must be able to read labels, instructions and follow recipes.

Responsibilities

• Uses all kitchen equipment in a safe, proper, and efficient way.
• Maintains safety, food safety, and cleanliness in the kitchen.
• Serves students efficiently with appropriate portions per state requirements.
• Follows food safety guidelines; uses thermometers for safe temperatures.
• Prepares food according to planned menu and recipes.
• Ensures finished product quality in flavor and appearance before serving.
• Completes a daily production record accurately.
• Reports faulty or inferior quality food to the kitchen manager.
• Assists unloading and storing all food deliveries.
• Performs daily cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities (sweeping/mopping).
