Qualifications

• Criminal background check and child abuse registry required.
• Must have a satisfactory employment record.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Currently possess or obtain Class B Commercial Driver License with the P endorsement.
• Must pass all required training by the district and the Mississippi Department of Education.
• Driving record with no more than two traffic violations in the past three years.
• Must be insurable by the district's insurance carrier.
• Must perform preventive maintenance checks on the bus.
• No medical history or conditions that could affect student safety.
• Must safely lift and carry students up to 60 lbs; capable of climbing bus steps.
• Must pass drug screening and DOT Clearing House annually.

Responsibilities

• Obey all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintain discipline on the bus while ensuring passenger safety.
• Complete bus discipline and maintenance reports as required.
• Keep the bus exterior mirrors clean and properly adjusted.
• Conduct at least two evacuation drills per school year using proper procedures.
• Identify and report hazards along the route to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Exercise defensive driving, vigilance, and sound judgment at all times.
• Ensure students are picked up and discharged only at authorized stops.
• Follow all district, local, and state transportation policies.
