Job description

City of Pekin School Bus Department is seeking applicants for part-time school bus drivers during the school year. The position is active during the school year while school is in session. Position is a split shift, with a 3 hour guaranteed minimum per day. Must be 21 years of age, have or have the ability to maintain a CDL with school bus permit, and pass an extensive background check, pre-employment physical, and drug test, along with random drug and alcohol testing. The City of Pekin will train you - no experience necessary. Current pay rate is $20.40 per hour with Wellness Benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operates school bus on a predetermined route and schedule in a safe and efficient manner.
2. Maintain order and discipline among students on bus following school district and City of Pekin rules and regulations.
3. Performs daily inspections and maintain vehicle maintenance, mileage, trip, and student reports.
4. Prepare student conduct and incident reports and accident reports.
5. Operates hydraulic lift.
6. Assists in the loading and unloading of physically and mentally handicapped students as necessary.
7. Monitors vehicle and equipment operation and reports malfunctions and repair needs.
8. Maintain current certification for CPR and basic first aid training.
9. Fuel and clean exterior and interior of buses including, but not limited to, sweeping & mopping floor, wiping upholstery, picking up debris and general cleaning daily.
10. Utilize two-way radio for bus to bus, bus to school, and bus to base communications.
11. Observe applicable local, state, and federal policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent, commercial driver's license with school bus permit or ability to receive one, prior responsible work experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to meet the requirements of the State of Illinois School Bus Permit annually.
