Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a dedicated Bus Aide for a part-time role to ensure student safety during transportation to and from school. The position emphasizes clear communication and collaboration with students and transportation staff.

The Bus Aide will assist with seating, behavior monitoring, and supporting students with special needs, while maintaining a clean bus and reporting safety concerns as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children or in a similar role is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm in challenging situations.
• Background check and drug screenings may be required.
• Flexible availability including early mornings and late afternoons.
• Ability to lift and assist students as needed.
• CPR and First Aid certification is a plus or willingness to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in transporting students to and from school and designated locations.
• Ensure students are seated and wearing seatbelts at all times.
• Monitor student behavior to promote a safe, respectful environment.
• Provide support to students with special needs ensuring comfort and safety.
• Help students board and exit the bus safely, especially younger children or those with disabilities.
• Communicate with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation issues.
• Report incidents or safety concerns to the driver or supervisor promptly.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment.
• Attend training sessions and meetings as required by the transportation department.
