Qualifications

• New Mexico Audiologist license required (state board)
• NMPED Instructional Support Provider license — Audiologist endorsement
• Doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD/PhD) or equivalent, from an accredited program
• Minimum one year of experience as a practicing audiologist in an educational setting
• Valid driver’s license; travel between school sites required
• Background check/fingerprint clearance and TB clearance

Responsibilities

• Examine students with hearing, balance, and related auditory concerns
• Assess exam results and diagnose student hearing needs
• Interpret audiological test results and advise as part of the IEP team
• Select and fit appropriate classroom amplification systems
• Monitor student progress with hearing loss and amplification use, adjusting as needed
• Determine appropriate courses of treatment based on students’ educational needs
• Participate as an IEP team member in decisions regarding student services
• Counsel students, staff, and families on communication strategies
• Evaluate, follow up on, and document student progress
• Consult with school staff and families regarding hearing-related educational needs
• Educate students on hearing loss prevention
