Note

Essential personnel that supervise the general activities of Opportunity House residents and provides support and guidance in 8 hours shifts for the 24-hour / seven days per week coverage of the program, by performing the following:

• Part-time Residential Specialists work at least two (2) eight-hour shifts on the weekends and may workdays, evening, nights, or holidays.
• Part-time Residential Specialists are required to maintain on-call status to help fill in on evenings, weekdays, weekends, holidays or as needed.
• Part-time Residential Specialists may be required to work several holidays per year.

HOUSING RESIDENTIAL SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Life Skills

As assigned or in coordination with Housing team provide services and activities that ensure clients self-sufficiency and social connectivity. Services include Life Skills training on the following areas but not limited to: time management, prioritizing, parenting, personal appearance, hygiene, food management, health, housekeeping, interpersonal skills, emergencies, safety and other daily living activities that affect the youth's ability to manage their basic needs and adult life demands. Assist volunteers in the delivery of client's services.

Life Enrichment Activities

Provides and facilitates life enrichment activities, artistic expression individuals/ groups and leisure activities for the youth per program schedule or as needed.

Therapeutic Milieu/life-space Model & Stages Of Change Model

Support, guide and reinforce the client's ability to learn coping skills and problem solve situations, while offering a safe place for the skills to be practiced. Provides an environment that is flexible and rich with opportunities and feedback from caring staff. Utilize the model when managing youth behaviors, deescalating conflicts, and communicating general aspects of the Building Rules or program expectations. Meet client where they are in the provision of services utilizing the Stages of Change Model. Informs and consults with supervisor about youth expectations and behaviors, as necessary.

Client's Schedule

Assists in supervising the youth on their program expectations and keep track of client's weekly schedule (i.e. work, school, groups) in conjunction with the Housing team.

Daybreak Dollars

Provides items from the Daybreak Dollars pantry as needed maintaining the pantry log up to date. Assign tasks to clients for Daybreak Dollars as needed in coordination with Housing team.

Communication

Document shift events in the bed white board of CareLogic, prepares and maintains accurate records as needed like Unusual Incident Reports (UIR), time sheets and other forms of documentation that may be required for program compliance by the agency. Maintains communication between shifts by documenting all clients & shifts events on shift notes and communication with Housing staff, through emails to "Case review TH". Ensures coverage of the floor during shift and follows coverage protocol in coordination with supervisor.

Residential Specialist Shift Duties

Completes duties assigned to each shift including but not limited to rounds, inventory, maintaining client binders, cooking, laundry and distributing mail.

Communal Areas

Maintains order and cleanliness in all communal areas daily. Monitors use of lounges, terrace, communal computer and phone in office area or any other Daybreak's equipment that the youth utilizes.

Safety

Instructs youth during drills and real emergencies according to the organization's Emergency Procedures.

Security

Collaborates with the security guard to ensure that all outside visitors have exited the apartments, communal areas, and the building after visitor's hours. Page "all staff to the second floor" if a violence incident occurs as needed.

Move-ins

Assists in client move-ins as requested by supervisor.

Move-outs

Assists in client move-outs by preparing the unit for Facilities to clean, repair and paint. Collaborates with Supervisor to bag and clear client's belongings out of the apartment. Performs move-out checks with provided form, as clients leave a unit.

Apartment's Housekeeping

Performs and follows up with apartment's inspections on a weekly basis ensuring that the youth observe the Building Rules and Housing Procedures maintaining safe and sanitary conditions in the apartments as requested by supervisor. Reports to Housing by email, apartment inspection ratings and get units ready for site visit audits.

Bed Bugs

Ensures client follows Housing Bed Bugs Eradication Plan in case of an infestation. Collaborates with Case Manager during move-ins in the use of the bedbug oven and other tasks as needed.

Maintenance Requests

Send maintenance requests of repairs or potential bed bugs treatments needed in the units and communal areas.

Program Rules

Enforce program rules with a strength base approach and supports, promotes, and engage youth to enhance positive behaviors utilizing natural and logical consequences, as necessary.

Refrains from engaging in dual-relationships or any other ethical boundary with clients to ensure and protect client's rights and consults with supervisor when there might be a risk of these situations, where applicable.

Refrains from engaging in negative or counterproductive behaviors and attitudes and strives to keep the well-being of co-workers and clients at the forefront.

Demonstrates appreciation, understanding and trust in the work of his/her colleagues.

Attends training/agency meetings, as scheduled. Responsible for completing all required trainings needed to comply with Daybreak policy. Maintains appropriate in-service training hours by attending conferences, workshops and training that are relevant to the job description and assignment tasks.

Adheres to and upholds agency's Mission, Core Values, attendance policies and procedures and maintain and contribute to positive customer relations-both internally and externally (clients, staff, vendors, donors.)

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

HS/GED required AA or BA in Human Services or related field preferred. Experience with target population, preferred.

Language Skills

Background Check

Pre-employment Testing

• A tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray (by a physician of Daybreak's choosing)
• A urine drug screening (by a testing facility of Daybreak's choosing)

Should the pre-employment reviews indicate that the prospective employee does not meet the employment requirements, Daybreak has the option of either not hiring the person or postponing employment until the condition prohibiting employment has been removed.

If the background or pre-employment checks contain information that the applicant has committed, been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to any criminal offense, unless the charge was a minor misdemeanor not involving violence or a sexual offense at least 5 years old, or if the applicant refuses to submit fingerprints for a criminal background check, the conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn immediately.

Pursuant to SB 38 (child-serving agency), if it is determined that the applicant has committed one of the disqualifying events listed on the attached Ohio Revised Code Disqualifier sheet may prevent employment at Daybreak.

Salary: $16.50 per hour
