For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.** **JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS**The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of laboratory tasks related to ongoing projects in the Holland-Lulewicz archaeology and ecology labs. Specific tasks may include zooarchaeological analyses, geoarchaeological analyses, literature reviews, data analysis, and general analytical tasks on curated collections in the context of environmental archaeology. More general tasks will include management of lab tasks and schedule, organization of task calendar and project progress, and interfacing with both undergraduate and graduate laboratory members.Applicants will need a Master’s degree in Anthropology. Experience working with environmental and archaeological materials and data. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management. Ideally experience undertaking independent archaeological and/or paleoenvironmental research.Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:* Zooarchaeological analyses will include such tasks as identifying, sorting, weighing, categorizing, and analyzing both vertebrate and invertebrate remains in the lab recovered through excavation.* A range of laboratory analyses on potential soil samples. This may include particle size analyzes via screening, or more advanced work at the core-analyzer facility.* Literature reviews for particular topics, methods, analytical procedures, or background may be necessary to contribute to ongoing projects.* For some datasets, quantitative analyses may need to be undertaken. The successful candidate will work with the Lab PI’s to outline and design these analyses to be undertaken and subsequently reported on.* A variety of analytical tasks may arise that need to be completed.
