For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.**This position is funded for 6 months; continuation past 6 months will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.### **POSITION SPECIFICS****Penn State****’s** **Department of Entomology** is seeking a **Research Technologist** to manage, organize and maintain a research laboratory and several greenhouse facilities and assist with research projects. The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day affairs of the research group, and get involved in conducting research and maintain field experiments testing various aspects of integrated pest management and plant-invertebrate interactions.**Responsibilities include:*** Maintain invertebrate colonies and experimental plants, collect and coordinate data, purchase supplies and help manage budgets.* Responsible for general lab safety protocols.* Assist with interviewing and hiring wage payroll employees and coordinate their daily activities of wage employees and those of other students that may work in the lab.* Lead demonstrations and instruct lab personnel on standard scientific procedures, practices, and technique of measuring and recording observations, collecting, compiling and processing of samples and data.* Share research results in public settings (extension or research audiences).* Assemble, test calibrate, clean, or make minor repairs to equipment.**Required Qualifications*** Related experience in entomology and greenhouse research.* Must be proficient in field and laboratory research and data collection.* Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation for working with diverse audiences in a team environment.* Ability to work independently, coordinate several projects simultaneously, and possess excellent organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills is required.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Experience with statistical analyses is a plus. **MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS**Bachelor's DegreeNo prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.Required Certifications:None### **BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES**This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
