Job summary

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine seeks a Research Laboratory Technician to conduct molecular and cellular biology research, including tissue culture and DNA/RNA/protein work, with emphasis on data collection and analysis using innovative techniques.

The successful candidate will join a team committed to rigorous experimentation, meticulous recordkeeping, inventory management, and reagent preparation in a clean, well-organized laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
• Ability to maintain accurate records of experiments and data.
• Familiarity with inventory and stock management in a lab.
• Ability to work in a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities

• Communicates problems or matters of a scientific, technical, and/or administrative nature.
• Maintains accurate records of tests conducted, results, data, including calculation of results from supplied data, obtained data, and statistics.
• Responsible for inventory maintenance at each bench assignment.
• Performs a variety of molecular and cellular biology assays using tissue cultures and tissue extracts, including one or more of the following: Western blotting, Immunofluorescence staining, ELISA, RNA isolation/RT-PCR
• Prepares stock solutions and reagents.
• Maintains a clean, efficient work area and replenishes/orders supplies as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.
