Job summary

Chester County Library in Exton, PA is seeking a Part Time Librarian in the Reference Department with MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program. The role provides direct research and reference services to adults and young adults in person, by phone, and online, and serves as passport agent for public applications.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of reference experience, knowledge of resources, and strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills. Evening/weekend hours are required.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• At least 1 year of reference experience.
• Knowledge of print and electronic resources.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage time, stay organized, and work as part of a team.
• Willingness to work daytime and evening hours with rotating weekends.

Responsibilities

• Staff the library’s service desk(s).
• Provide guidance in finding library materials.
• Provide general reference and advisory services.
• Assist in collection development and maintenance.
• Plan, produce and promote library programs, including in-house and/or virtual programs and coordinating with outside organizations.
• Complete assigned projects that support the library’s annual goals and objectives.
• Participate in community outreach activities.
• Assist supervisor with daily operations and provide reports, as needed.
• Assist with creating daily schedules and ensure there is adequate coverage.
• Serve as part of the Person in Charge team on rotation.
• Participate in continuing education workshops, seminars and conferences as needed to keep current in the field.
• Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
