The City of Moraine is seeking a part-time Recreation Clerk to greet visitors, explain memberships and rentals, collect payments, and balance cash at the facility.

This role involves assisting with tours, answering inquiries, and promoting programs while ensuring accurate use of registration software and adherence to city policies. CPR/First Aid are preferred and pre-employment screening is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 1+ years recreation experience preferred or equivalent education/experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check required; random screenings.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications preferred or must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing a safe and effective public recreation program.
  • Promote parks and recreation programs and establish positive rapport with the public.
  • Respond to inquiries about programs, memberships, and rentals; conduct orientation tours.
  • Accurately operate the Registration Management Software.
  • Open and close facilities and handle cash per City policy.
  • Collect fees, issue receipts, balance cash, and deposit funds.
  • Address participant complaints and escalate as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with City policies and procedures.
  • Prepare publications like brochures, calendars, letters, posters, and flyers.
  • Maintain CPR and first aid certifications.
  • Maintain professional appearance and punctual attendance.

This position performs a variety of duties such as explaining membership and rental rates, collecting fees, issuing receipts, balancing cash receipts, depositing money, opening and closing facilities and securing the cashiering areas. Employees in this position also meet people as they enter the recreation facilities, provide facility tours, answer phone calls, refer calls to appropriate division personnel, plan activities, and promote interest and provide program information to the public.

Requirements and Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with one or more years experience of recreation, customer relations, office administration, and cash handling experience preferred, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must comply with all City rules and regulations (PPM). All candidates must be willing to submit to random drug screenings.

First Aid and CPR certifications preferred or must be obtained immediately after hire.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and public.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Maintain good physical condition in order to work outdoors under various weather conditions, as well as indoors. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit. To use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and operate equipment or controls. They may also have to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift medium weight items, 50 pounds or less, such as equipment or other material.

Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Corrective lenses may be worn to aid in specific
vision requirements.

Requires normal hearing abilities.

Must be of good moral character with no disqualifying criminal history.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Assist in developing a safe and effective public recreation program.
  • 2. Enthusiastically promote parks and recreation programs and public relations. Establish positive rapport with public.
  • 3. Be continuously available to respond to public inquiries about recreation programs, recreation memberships, and rentals. Conduct orientation tours of recreation facilities.
  • 4. Accurately perform and operate the Registration Management Software.
  • 5. Opening and closing of facilities.
  • 6. Accurately collect fees, issue receipts, balance cash records, and deposit money in accordance with City policy and procedures.
  • 7. Answer participant complaints and relay or direct pertinent concerns to supervisors.
  • 8. Understand City recreation policies, regulations, and procedures and ensure compliance with stated City and division guidance.
  • 9. Preparing for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs.
  • 10. Perform administrative functions using the computer, calculator, and other office equipment.
  • 11. Maintain current CPR and first aid certifications.
  • 12. Maintain clean and neat appearance. Uniforms shall be worn at all times. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
  • 13. Maintain regular and timely attendance -- dressed and ready for work at scheduled time.
