Responsibilities

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Greeley college campus and its personnel.

It is essential to maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality at all times. In the event of an institutional emergency, this position may be required to remain at their work location or report to work to protect, recover, and sustain operations at the College.

Job Duties
Patrolling & Call Response
  • Conduct security patrols of campus and College facilities on foot, by patrol car, or bicycle, and provide stationary post duties as assigned.
  • Report breaches of security, such as trespassers, to the Security Supervisor and management, and coordinate with local law enforcement as necessary.
  • Perform safety escorts for campus community members, including students and staff, to and from vehicles and College facilities upon request.
  • Monitor secure areas for unauthorized personnel and patrol college facilities, including parking lots and open spaces, to deter crime and prevent vandalism or theft of school property.
  • Address disruptions caused by physical or verbal conflict between students and visitors to maintain a safe environment.
  • Inspect buildings for safety by checking doors, windows, and exits, and respond to alarms while assisting fire and police departments as needed.
  • Deliver customer service by providing information, support, and service to the campus community and guiding Guest Services employees in Campus Safety and Security.
Investigations & Reporting
  • Conduct investigations of security matters on campus.
  • Write complete, accurate, and timely reports to record campus incidents, document investigations, and maintain logs relating to activity on campus.
  • This requires strong oral and written communication skills, including basic computer and typing proficiency.
  • Originate and file written reports utilizing computer-aided reporting systems regarding activities and incidents occurring on College properties and information received from other sources pertaining to security or incidents on properties and the surrounding area.
  • Properly report and track campus incidents for inclusion in the federally mandated Clery reports.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
Duty Enforcement
  • Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts, disruptions, and confrontations on campus while ensuring safety and security.
  • Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and assist with crowd management as needed.
  • Enforce the student code of conduct, college rules, and regulations, and issue campus parking tickets on college properties owned or leased as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Address and challenge individuals who trespass, loiter, or operate vehicles errantly, as well as anyone posing a safety or security risk to students and staff.
  • Direct and escort anyone posing a threat or found in unauthorized campus areas to maintain the safety and integrity of the College's physical assets and property.
  • Call law enforcement when necessary.
Emergency Response
  • Assist in evacuating faculty, staff, and students during emergencies.
  • Serve as an initial responder when dealing with emergency situations such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, lockdowns, etc., following proper procedures for lockdown, lockout, evacuate, and shelter in place.
  • Respond to and manage all types of emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies.
  • Maintain required certifications in emergency response areas as required by the College and federal or state law or regulation.
Event Security
  • Collaborate with Events staff and Law Enforcement to coordinate event logistics and monitor security efforts for the College's internal and external events.
  • Provide guidance to Guest Services employees and assist event attendees by answering questions, offering directions, and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Monitor access points, conduct bag checks, perform entry screenings, and remain vigilant to any suspicious parties or situations.
  • Conduct crowd monitoring to ensure safety, clear exits, and prevent loitering in areas like stairwells, elevators, and escalators.
  • Offer parking assistance to ensure attendees park correctly and maintain a smooth flow of traffic for safe ingress and egress to events.
  • Providing parking assistance at the designated parking areas.
  • Ensure that attendees are parking where they should and that there is a flow of traffic that allows for safe ingress and egress of events.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or other related field and three (3) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • OR Five (5) years as Law Enforcement, Military, or other related work experience or an equivalent combination or education and/or work experience.
  • Previous experience with a firearm.
  • Exhibit strong verbal communication skills.
  • Must pass a pre-employment post-offer physical exam, urinalysis, and psychological exam.
  • This position requires the use of a company vehicle for business travel.
  • The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain the department-approved Firearms certification.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain the department-approved Defensive Tactics certification.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain certification in Basic First Aid/CPR.
  • Upon hire, must successfully complete and maintain the department-approved Firearms certification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in security in a higher education setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and applicable federal laws and college procedures, and the ability to work closely with all persons responsible for enforcement in order to respond to situations accurately.
  • POST certification PPCT certification (no older than 3 years) Colorado POST firearms qualification (no older than 1 year)
