Job summary

The City of Concord seeks an instructor to lead ceramic and pottery programs for participants of all ages and abilities.

You will teach wheel-throwing, hand building, and glazing, communicating clay preparation, firing formats, and safety workflows while adapting to varied skill levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead and instruct participants in wheel-throwing, hand building, and glazing techniques, adapting for skill levels.
• Assist tracking and inventory of ceramics supplies and manage kiln resources to minimize waste.
• Develop and modify pottery programming to grow opportunities based on community feedback.
• Provide excellent customer care by answering clay-related questions and assisting with registrations.
• Create and distribute marketing materials to raise awareness of the facility and offerings.
• Instruct participants and communicate class lengths, formats, and adaptations for health considerations.
• Prepare classrooms and maintain the studio area; report damages as needed; manage setup.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations and serve as a liaison at special events and trips as needed.
• Follow City of Concord Parks & Recreation policies and procedures.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to lead and instruct participants in ceramic and pottery programs for all ages and abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead and instruct participants in wheel-throwing, hand building, and glazing techniques, clearly communicating clay preparation steps, firing formats, and safety workflows. Programs should be adapted for a variety of skill levels.
• Assist the tracking and inventory of ceramics supplies and manage kiln room resources responsibly to minimize waste.
• Assist with Pottery programming to create new opportunities, organizations, modifying current workshops and future growth based on community feedback.
• Deliver exceptional customer care by answering clay related technical questions, managing studio transactions and assisting participants with registrations.
• Create and distribute engaging marketing materials. This may include flyers and social media updates to help bring awareness of the facility and its offerings.
• Instructs class participants. Communicates with participants concerning class lengths, training formats, and adapted modifications. Adapts programs to accommodate a variety of age predictable health concerns.
• Classroom preparation. Maintains the studio area by performing housekeeping duties. Responsible for classroom or facility set up as needed. Reports any damages to classroom or facility to supervisor.
• Emergency response. Responds quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
• Special event facilitator. Plans and executes trips using the Parks & Recreation vehicles. Serves as a City liaison at special recreation programs at non-City facilities. Assists with Parks & Recreation programs, festivals and events on an as-needed basis.
• Follows rules, policies and procedures established by the City of Concord and the Parks & Recreation Department.
