OVERVIEW:
The part-time Production Stage Manager & Front of House Assistant for Lilly Theater participates in facilitating and supporting The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ theater production process by running the front of house operations for performances. The assistant organizes and supports teams involved in the production, maintaining communication during the process. The incumbent assists with the set building and tear down process including construction, painting and general set assembly. They perform similar duties in support of the Interpretation department operations throughout the Museum
.
- Serves as a production stage manager for theater productions, including attending rehearsals and performances. Prepares for rehearsals by copy editing and distributing scripts for future and current productions. Coordinates with department colleagues and designers to create and manage schedules for rehearsals and performances.
- Creates cast and character breakdowns, as well as properties lists to be referenced by the production team. Creates and distributes rehearsal notes to production teams and department management.
- Ensures adherence to safety protocols by internal and external production team members during rehearsal and performance by placing safety taping, conducting and documenting safety walk throughs; Communicates the requests of internal and contracted show directors to internal staff in a timely manner and serves as a liaison with other departments to ensure show safety.
- Serves as a Lilly Theater production and event technician by staying up to speed and trained in operating lighting and the sound booth.
- Assists Theater Manager with scheduling and running auditions including working directly with volunteer services staff to schedule volunteers and create front of house schedules.
- Assists with interpreter and actor rehearsals for presentations and shows outside of the Lilly Theater, at the direction of the manager and department director.
- Assists with supporting museum events in Lilly Theater, including but not limited to set up, tear down, attendance reporting and any technical needs.
- Performs other duties related to show production and Lilly Theater operations including ordering scripts, facilitating photo shoots, assisting with costume fittings, helping with cast boards, producing attendance reports, etc. Assists with production builds and strikes, as well as administrative or technical aspects of theater operations.
- Assists with running front-of-house to ensure shows start on time, calls are made to actors and technical crew and actors fulfill contractual requirements. Assists the theater manager with creating front-of-house schedules to ensure proper staffing.

Requiremenets
- Bachelor’s degree in theater or stage management or equivalent production stage management and/or front of house assistant experience.
- 2 to 3 years of technical theater experience
- Strong background working in a creative, fast paced and operational environment.
- Ability to work with dynamic people with a variety of diverse backgrounds and professional experiences.
- Strong organizational skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple responsibilities; proven problem solving and customer service skills.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
Ada Requirements
- Required to review documents, process paperwork, observe theater performances, run sound and light board operations and make public presentations.
- Must be able to communicate by telephone, virtually, in-person, group, one-on-one conversations, electronically and radio.
- Must be able to handle keyboard and calculator use and paperwork processing.
- Required to negotiate stairs, sit/stand for long periods of time. Must be able to traverse the campus and facility, lift up to 40 lbs. and move equipment.
